Environmental Technology

Miscellaneous benthic macro-invertebratesMiscellaneous benthic macro-invertebratesScientists are working to improve AstraZeneca's ability to address environmental issues early in the development of the manufacturing process.  Areas of cooperation include:
  • Green chemistry.

Rapid microplate ecotoxicity screens (using algae and crustaceans) have been successfully developed and are now being used to define the ecotoxicity of ionic liquids.

  • Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) modelling.

Research is underway to strengthen ETP modelling capability in Astrazeneca.  This is expected to have significant potential as a tool for validating the environmental risk assessment of APIs.
