Scientists are working to improve AstraZeneca's ability to address environmental issues early in the development of the manufacturing process. Areas of cooperation include:
Green chemistry.
Rapid microplate ecotoxicity screens (using algae and crustaceans) have been successfully developed and are now being used to define the ecotoxicity of ionic liquids.
Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) modelling.
Research is underway to strengthen ETP modelling capability in Astrazeneca. This is expected to have significant potential as a tool for validating the environmental risk assessment of APIs.
