What Environmental Testing will be Required?

Hussman Unit, sewage treatment simulation study, Test Guideline OECD 303AThe data should supply sufficient information on the active substance's biocidal efficacy, physical and chemical properties, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties and environmental behaviour as well as appropriate analytical methods. For the environmental data, this is a 3-step process:
  • Core Data-Set

    • Acute fish, invertebrate, algae
    • Hydrolysis, photolysis
    • Microbial toxicity
    • Ready biodegradability

Brixham Environmental Laboratory has for many years, supplied these tests on a wide range of bioactive substances. We can give guidance about the most appropriate testing to consider and we have skills in dealing with 'difficult' substances.

  • Product-specific requirements

All new active substances will require additional data to satisfy the requirements of Annexes II and III of the Biocidal Products Directive. Specific additional data requirements will apply to each of the 23 biocidal product types. These test requirements have been developed as Technical Notes for Guidance. Brixham Environmental Laboratory can help you to focus your testing strategy on the appropriate testing scenarios.

  • Additional Testing

We can help you select the most appropriate testing based on the substance properties and the biocidal product type.

Brixham Environmental Laboratory can also help you to discuss and agree the appropriate testing program with the Rapporteur Member State considering your active substance. We have developed facilities and expertise in conducting simulation tests at low concentrations, using radiolabelled active substances. These include sewage treatment (OECD 303A) soil (OECD 307) and water-sediment (OECD 308) simulations.

Our studies are supported by state of the art analytical facilities and expert modellers to interpret your data along with dedicated project managers to oversee the work on your behalf.
